A woman washing in the river

Water pollution has been a huge problem for rivers in urban areas but now is a growing problem among rivers in rural areas as well. Water rich in nitrogen and phosphates from crop fertilizer flows directly into the river without the benefit of wetland filtration. During my visit to the rural parts of Kenya, I also saw people doing their laundry along the riverbanks and getting water for domestic use from the same rivers. Do they know this is wrong? That is what i had to ask myself and posed the same question to them too.
The soapy water used in laundry flows into the rivers causing pollution; interfering with the PH and color of the water negatively affecting its ability to be used for other uses – including being habitat for many living organisms. There is therefore need to sensitize people on proper management of water resources and how to avoid water pollution
